Meet Anna Pihan, the photographer behind the camera of our latest Solstice campaign.

Australian photographer Anna Pihan has the right idea, splitting time between the emerald city of Sydney and whichever sunny clime of Europe happens to pique her interest. Upon discovering Anna's work we fell hard for her aesthetic, which predominantly explores the visual language of travel - reimagining endless leisure and limitless daydreaming. When we asked Anna to capture our new Solstice collection from the incredible isle of Pantelleria, Italy, we got her to set the lens down for just a moment, so that we could learn more about her process.

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Anna Pihan, I’m a photographer based between Sydney, Australia and Europe and the co-founder of The Pleasure of Leisure, a sunny lifestyle brand I run with Milou Neelen of Hôtel Magique. My practice leans towards the analog process, and I’m often on the move, traveling to interesting corners of the world.

Your photography captures a real sense of atmosphere—what draws you to a particular place or scene?

I’m drawn to specific aesthetics of a place at first, whether it’s a lamp, chair or rocky landscape.

You shot our campaign for Solstice, can you tell us about that day? What stood out to you about the location?

Pantelleria is such a wild and mesmerizing island, with its jagged volcanic formations, bubbling blue waters and lush mountains––it felt very alive and worlds away - like a pearl amongst all the natural elements.

Do you have a ritual or approach when arriving at a new shoot location?

Watching the light, chatting with locals and exploring on foot.

Travel is clearly a big part of your life and work—what’s one travel habit or mindset that helps you stay present while on the move?

I love to take a walk wherever I am, preferably in the morning before the city has woken up, and I always bring a notebook and pen with me, making little sketches and writing down observations and feelings throughout the day.

What’s in your carry-on camera kit when you’re traveling light?

Film, batteries, and lead bag (and cameras).

Where was the last place you travelled for yourself, not for work? What made it memorable?

Lanzaorte! It had been on my dream list for so long, and it did not disappoint. I seem to find myself drawn to volcanic islands. This was as wild and vast as I imagined, and I fell in love with Cesar Manrique’s creations, bringing creative energy to the island.

Where to next?

Back to Europe, but I am dreaming of an adventure to the west coast of Africa or a remote island in the Pacific.

What does escape mean to you?

Escape means freedom to create, a moment to dream and the endless possibilities.
